Office for Translational Research

The Sunway-Cambridge Collaboration originated in October 2017, building on a partnership previously established through the Jeffrey Cheah Professorial Fellowships at Gonville and Caius College. The parties in the present Collaboration are the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, Sunway University and Sunway Medical Centre (SunMed) in Malaysia. The aim of this strategic partnership is to focus on capacity building in three key areas:

1. Developing SunMed as a centre of excellence in clinical trials (Clinical Trials programme)

2. Establishing the Sunway-Cambridge's visiting leaders initiative (Visiting Leaders programme)

3. Training the clinical and scientific champions of tomorrow (Education and Training programme).

Within the remit around capacity building, the Collaboration welcomes proposals from any of the organisations in the partnership. Proposals should align with the three programmes of the strategic partnership and be in the key areas of collaborative clinical trials, academic research or postgraduate clinical education and training. Please note that all proposals should include named Sunway and Cambridge partners and initial contact should be made through the relevant programme lead and the programme manager. Pump-prime funding may be awarded to promising projects with a view to supporting collaborative project teams to make external funding applications.
