This project is the result of a successful collaboration which includes SAS Institute and the Office for Translational Research (OTR). SAS Institute is the world's sixth-largest computer software company and has been ranked as the global leader in data science, machine learning and AI platforms for eight consecutive years.
Since 2018, SAS has been actively supporting transplant surgeon Prof Gavin Pettigrew (Department of Surgery) in the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) system using the Viya platform to assess the suitability of kidneys for transplantation. This flagship project aims to assess kidney biopsy images via AI and automation which improves accuracy, reliability and efficiency.
The project was showcased at a recent SAS Explore event.
