Office for Translational Research

In partnership with the University of Cambridge, AstraZeneca is offering a fully funded Fellowship for clinicians to provide training and experience in drug development.

The Fellowship will offer exposure to broad aspects of drug discovery including pre-clinical target identification and validation experimental design through the Emerging Innovations Unit. For background, the Emerging Innovations Unit is a bespoke, creative R&D group within AZ. They employ a variety of methods to identify novel drug and disease-indication opportunities to maximise the potential of AZ assets. The remit also allows exploration of opportunities aligned to, and outside of, AZ core strategic areas through a combination of internal programs and pioneering ‘Open Innovation’ partnerships with external investigators. The Clinical Fellow may work on all these aspects and, as a result, expertise in all disease disciplines will be considered. This Fellowship is offered over 24 months with an initial induction block of 6 months full time within AstraZeneca followed by 18 months working alongside existing clinical/research commitments with the candidate based 50% flexibly within AstraZeneca. This Fellowship is open to clinicians employed by the University of Cambridge only.

Candidates should have a strong academic and clinical background, and the post is advertised at two levels: Director Physician or Associate Director Physician, depending on a candidate’s level of experience. All candidates are expected to hold a PhD and be employed by the University of Cambridge prior to the start of their secondment.

For informal enquiries about this Fellowship please contact Prof Charlotte Summers (cs493@cam.ac.uk). Application is via submission of a CV and an accompanying Expression of Interest. For further particulars about this opportunity and to obtain an Expression of Interest form please contact Dr Nicola White (njw61@medschl.cam.ac.uk).

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 12th May 2023.
