Office for Translational Research

Cambridge is renowned for its wealth of cutting-edge expertise and world-class facilities. However, identifying the unique combination of individuals, industry and infrastructure essential to driving your project forward can be a major barrier to initiating your translational project.

We are effectively internal consultants providing expert advice to help projects progress including:

  • Introduction to collaborators with suitable expertise within the University of Cambridge/Cambridge NHS Trusts, possibly through our programme of AIMday events
  • Identification of eligible joint funding programmes/streams and assistance with applications
  • Development of and support with large strategic translational/industrial initiatives or bids
  • Set-up and management of translational research projects
  • Development and management of funded programmes offering secondment opportunities for clinicians to work on pre-clinical, experimental medicine or clinical studies
  • Joint industry clinical PhD research and training opportunities for clinicians via the Experimental Medicine Initiative programme

We also create opportunities for scientific discussion and networking between partners to identify potential collaborative projects and unmet research needs via workshops, symposia and face-to-face meetings. The OTR represents the interests of the University and of the scientist and can negotiate the terms of future collaborations without impacting the relationship between the scientists themselves.

The OTR works closely with other structures within the University such as the Strategic Partnerships Office (SPO), the Milner Therapeutics Institute and Cambridge Academy of Therapeutic Sciences (CATS).
