
The objectives of academic and industry partners for the EMI collaboration are aligned.
Industry objectives
- To build research collaborations with the University of Cambridge in core therapeutic areas to support progression of the drug development pipeline
- To raise awareness of the role of clinical academics in clinical development programmes in industry
- To provide valuable practical experience and industry perspective for potential future principal investigators.
Academic objectives
- To create a pathway for clinical academic training through a series of funded PhD studentships and Academic Clinical Lectureships (ACLs) for medical postgraduates
- To provide EMI PhD students with exposure to research and development in industry
- To provide EMI PhD students with the opportunity to participate in the design and conduct of translational research including early phase interventional clinical studies (with a particular emphasis on clinical pharmacology studies investigating pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic responses)
- To provide ACLs with the opportunity to establish an independent research programme that has applicability to industry
- To establish a programme of high-quality training and networking events for all EMI trainees and ACLs with the wider clinical academic community.
