Office for Translational Research

Are you

  • an academic (from any School in the University of Cambridge)
  • a clinician from Cambridge NHS trusts
  • based in industry?

Would you like to increase the impact of your project but don’t know where to start?

Do you require advice navigating the University?

We are here to help!

In order for your project to progress along the translational pipeline, it is important to think how your product (whether a device, drug or intervention) will be rolled out. Are you envisaging spinning out a company? Are you considering licensing your product or making a business case within the NHS? These questions will determine which partners are necessary to further your aims, especially in the case of industry partners.

Identifying the unique combination of individuals, industry partners and infrastructure essential to driving your project forward can be a major barrier to initiating your translational project. Our deep understanding of the local medical, educational and industrial landscape alongside our established Cambridge network and knowledge base allow us to function as your broker of expertise, helping you to identify the best route for your research and manage your partnerships and collaborations.

Translational research requires intricate interactions between various players. As local experts in conduct of translational research projects, we define the best way to progress projects by signposting to the appropriate internal/external infrastructure resources and subject specialists: clinicians, Experts in Residence, Clinical Research Organisations, Research Governance, Cambridge Enterprise, the Research Operations Office (ROO), Clinical Trials Units (CTU), Clinical Engineering at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) groups etc.
