The Cambridge-Sunway Collaboration originated in October 2017, building on a partnership previously established through the Jeffrey Cheah Professorial Fellowships at Gonville & Caius College. The parties in the present Collaboration are the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, Sunway University and Sunway Medical Centre (SunMed) in Malaysia. The Office for Translational Research is pleased to manage this strategic partnership. Currently, the collaboration focuses on two programmes:
1. Developing SunMed as a centre of excellence in clinical trials (Clinical Trials programme)
2. During the COVID pandemic a series of medical webinars for global audiences of general practitioners, general physicians, specialists, postgraduate trainees and medical students has been established.
Within the remit around capacity building, the Collaboration welcomes proposals from any of the organisations in the partnership. Please note that all proposals should include named Sunway and Cambridge partners and initial contact should be made through the relevant programme lead and the programme manager, Dr Luis Pennanen. Pump-prime funding may be awarded to promising projects with a view to supporting collaborative project teams to make external funding applications.
